About Ira’s
I love food!…
I remember, as a kid in the 60’s, how jealous I was of my sister Marsha’s Easy-Bake Oven. In those days, boys were not encouraged to cook, but I always felt pulled towards the kitchen where I could experiment with food and have fun.
Later, as a young man, I continued to follow my stomach and my passion for kitchens, working a variety of cooking jobs from short-order cook to pizza chef. By working in restaurants and observing how other entrepreneurs ran their operations, I learned what things I might do differently if I ever got the chance to open my own place.
That chance came in 1989, when my wife and I opened Brogel’s Deli on Inkster Boulevard. Turns out, knowing how to cook is not the same as knowing how to run a profitable restaurant. The learning curve was steep and the going was tough for the first few years, but we persevered, learning from our mistakes along the way. After a couple of years, we finally started seeing the light and began turning a profit.
In 1995, we changed our location, changed our name, and opened Ira’s Deli at 111 Lombard Avenue in Winnipeg’s Exchange District. The move was a good one and our business began to slowly increase. We continued to pour our heart and soul into the restaurant while meeting the growing demand for our catering services.
In the last few years, our focus has turned to specializing in memorial, event, and corporate catering. So give us a call and let Ira’s cater your next event.
Sincerely,
Ira Brick
